Meet Pepe & Danny

We are so lucky to share our farm with these two handsome gents. Despite their different statures, they share a lot in common including a love of donkeys and good pastures, plus hay and peppermint treats. Get to know them below.

Pepe the Quarter Horse

Nobody delivers a gentle nicker quite like Pepe. When his family had to move back to the city, Pepe found his new home at the farm. Sweet and animated, Pepe is a big fan of carrots, keeping the other donkeys in line and a good brush out. Most of all, he likes to be the center of your attention. He may let you know this by nuzzling your neck or nipping on your collar.

Pepe was an experienced therapy animal before he moved in with us. He is a gentle, intuitive and kind companion. The American Quarter Horse is the oldest breed of horse in the United States. They were bred to be agile, fast in short distances and a cowboy’s best friend. Pepe is no exception.

Danny the Shetland Pony

With his red hair and mottled coloring, Danny is one gorgeous guy. Plus, he’s very smart. When he wants to eat, he paws the ground with his right foot. (We are pretty sure he has a lot more to say, if given the chance.) Danny’s owner retired and brought him to live with us.

He grew up around children who adored him and was trained as a cart horse. The Shetland Pony originated in the Shetland Isles of Scotland. With a heavy coat and short legs, Shetland ponies often pulled carts to help in farm work. Shetland ponies are long-lived, easily reaching 30 without suffering many health problems.

While he can be a little shy at first, Danny loves to be loved. A carrot or an apple slice will help you get closer.
